This project is based on the interpreting practice of an excerpted part by the author froman English speech which was made in Columbia University by the famous entrepreneur JackMa(Ma Yun) in2010. The former part of the speech is Jack Ma introducing the foundationand development of Alibaba Group to the present students and schoolmates, then in the laterpart he uses the left time to answer the questions proposed by the listeners. The whole speechis quite fluent and full of humor.The whole project is composed of five parts. The first part gives a brief introduction ofthe interpreting project, including the background of Jack Ma and his speech, the contents andfeatures of the public speech. This part also points out the cause and purpose of chosing thisepisode and studing this subject. The second part is a general introduction of project process,including pre-interpreting process, note-taking whlie listening process and interpretingprocess. Then the third part includs the challenges the author meets with during the lastchapter. All the challenges make the author reflect throughtly and encourage her to find theeffective way to solve the challenges. So the fouth part is focus on the interpreting strategies.This is the main body of this project which discusses the stagetiges from five aspects. In thispart the author firstly introduces the interpretive theory, then according to the definition andcontents of the interpretive theory the author includs five strageties in solving the challengesshe met with before. The last part reaches a conclusion for the interpreting project and thereport.By analyzing the interpreting stragetiges in public speech, the author gets some preciousexpericence and lessons and she hopes these summaries can provide some worthwhilereference to those interpreters who are engaged in interpreting the public speech.
