With the rapid development of globalization, each country, each nation, and each culture are more and more closely connected with others. They cooperate with each other and competing with each other on the way of mutual progress. China and the United States, as two important members of the international community. It is no exaggeration to say that the relationship between them is influential to the development of the world and history. Since the establishment of their diplomatic ties, the relations between the two countries has developed in the ups and downs but by leaps and bounds. Among diversified diplomatic activities between the two countries, official visits between the state leaders and their diplomatic speech in the visits plays an important role on their relationship. Meanwhile, the interpretation of those speeches represents a nation’s political image and directly affects its diplomatic relations. The author chooses several speeches made by President Xi in his visit to the United States in Autumn,2015 as the material of simulating interpretation practice considering that it’s a current diplomatic affair, it is typical and challenging as well.The report adopts the Interpretive Theory as its theoretic view and support. Interpretive Theory is one of the world’s first set of systematic theory in interpretation, as well as an important guiding theory in the field. The theory acclaims that interpretation is not a single linguistic decoding process from the source language into the target language, but a dynamic process of comprehension and expression of the sense. The Interpretive Theory believes that the object of interpretation is the meaning of the original text which has been understood by the interpreter. It holds that e translation lays in the level of discourse, and the procedures is:to understand the sense of the original text on semantic basis with cognitive complement, then deverbalization and finally to express the sense.Under the guidance of Interpretive Theory, this report analyzes the practical material in order to summarize specific interpreting strategies during the practice, which provide some reference for further practice. The key question to answer in the analysis is: How to express creatively the sense of the original text in the target text?This report comprises of five chapters. In the first chapter, the author introduces the background of the task, the main content of the task and its objectives. The second chapter describes task process, presenting from its preparation, process and its review. The third chapter briefly introduces the origin of Interpretive Theory, its development and its core features. The fourth chapter is case analysis:the author analyzes practical examples by integrating theory in practice, and puts forward specific strategies in interpretation. Chapter Five is a conclusion of the practice including experience and problems.
