C-E Consecutive Interpretation Report On Premier Wen Press Conference

The interpretation report is composed of difficulty analysis and interpretation tactics in retrieving meaning unit of the NPC press conference addressed by Premier Wen Jiabao in2011. The press conference was attended by friends of media from home and abroad.Premier’s address consists of both features of oral and written Chinese. First, the words used in press conference, logic and discreetly chosen, clearly expressed the idea of premier as a channel to publicize the national policy. Second, Premier Wen prefers quoting classic Chinese sayings and giving continuous narration in his speech while using short sentences and structurally incomplete sentences in expression.In light of the features above, the difficulties in interpretation are two folds:first, the difficulty of retrieving culture-laden meaning unit with the cognitive barrier of people in different cultural background. The writer mainly discusses the factors of traditional, popular and institutional culture in this report. The second is the difficulty of retrieving meaning units due to language semantic and structural differences of Chinese and English.With a comparison of the simulation and on-site interpretation, the writer summarized tactics guided by deverbalization theory to retrieve meaning units, that is, literal interpretation, literal interpretation and explanation and connotation interpretation methods in retrieving culture-laden meaning units and transformation of parts of speech, voice and sentence sequence in meaning units of language difference.
