A Study Of Diplomatic Conference Interpretation From The Perspective Of The Interpretive Theory

Nowadays,exchanges and cooperation between countries in the world are playing an increasingly important role.All kinds of press conferences attract the attention of the media and people all over the world,so the English interpretation of foreign press conferences is crucial.This research has very important practical significance.Guided by the Interpretive Theory and taking foreign minister Wang Yi’s press conference in 2019 as an example,this thesis analyzes the interpreting skills of diplomatic conference.The core part of the Interpretive Theory is its Triangular Model,and that is,comprehension——deverbalization——re-expression.In the Triangular Model,the most important part is deverbalization,which means throwing away the external form of the language and paying attention to the meaning conveyed by the source language.Therefore,from the levels of structure and semantics,this thesis focuses on deverbalization and analyzing eight interpreting skills under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory in diplomatic conference interpretation,namely,conversion,combination,inversion,inserting,free interpretation,amplification,negation and omission.Among them,conversion,combination,inversion,and inserting belong to the structural level.In other words,when interpreting,the interpreter can focus on optimizing the interpretation by adjusting the sentence structure.Free interpretation,amplification,negation and omission belong to semantic level,which means that interpreters pay more attention to the meaning of sentences in interpretation,and make rational use of these four interpreting skills.These eight interpreting skills,all of which are based on deverbalization,have been fully applied in diplomatic conference interpretation,so as to make the interpreters have rules to follow and optimize the interpreting process.Therefore,this study is highly practical and worthyof reference in interpreting work.Through study,it is found that in diplomatic conference interpretation,interpreters can use these eight interpreting skills under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory to make the interpretation more accurate and fluent.The author hopes that this study can provide some theoretical guidance for future diplomatic conference interpretation.
