The Improvement Of Interpreters’ Competence In Terms Of Gile’s Interpretation Comprehension Equation

With the rapid development of economic globalization and more frequent international economy and trade exchanges, there are increasing communication and cooperation between China and its outside world in politics, economy, culture and other aspects. This situation has boosted a huge demand for interpreters with higher-level competence of interpreting. Therefore, how to improve the ability of interpreters should be explored at present.This thesis is a practice report. Based on a rethinking of a firsthand interpreting experience (i.e.The Interpreting Practice for the2013Yinchuan Program of IBM CSC), it analyzes some specific cases by borrowing Gile’s Interpretation Comprehension Equation so as to prove the abilities today’s English interpreters should have from the aspects of linguistic knowledge, extra-linguistic knowledge and abilities of analysis. In conclusion, interpreters should enhance their linguistic knowledge, extra-linguistic knowledge and abilities of analysis, and use them in combination while interpreting under the guidance of Gile’s Interpretation Comprehension Equation so as to better accomplish their interpretation tasks.
