In recent years, the training of interpreters has gained more and more attentionwith the increasing needs of interpreters in the job market in China. Because of that,many colleges have set up master degrees for interpreting and translation. Meanwhile,the training for students at the undergraduate level is also strengthened. As afundamental part for interpreting training, many teachers have taken sight translationas a stepping stone to interpretation study for undergraduates. On the base of her ownstudy experiences and the teacher’s advice, the writer thinks that the observationexperiment of sight translation practice and assessment would help beginners to bemore quickly involved in the study of sight translation, and later to be in the study ofinterpretation. Therefore in the observations of the three semesters, the writer got toknow the practicing methods students used, the assessment results for the final testsafter each semester and the interactions between practice and assessment.This thesis includes four chapters. In the first chapter, the writer introduces thebackground and values of the thesis and its academic contribution. The secondchapter contains the experiments process which can be divided into three stages. Inthe first stage, the writer concludes research achievements and process in the field. Inthe second stage, it is about experiment parameters and procedure that need to bepresented. The third is the observation itself. By observing the class teaching,collecting the testing results and consulting student’s personal practicing methods, thewriter delivers two experimental reports. The third chapter is the conclusion of the experiment. After the observation, the thesis makes a conclusion about practicingmethods, techniques and time arrangement for sight translation. In addition, the threeassessment forms and their application would help learners understand the difficultiesand the learning steps which are suitable for sight translation. In the end, the writerstates her main findings and also mentions the shortcomings and limitation forobservation experiment. At the same time, the writer returns to the meaning of thisstudy which is to do certain contribution to interpreting study and to provide referencevalue for future researchers.
