Among all kinds of interpretation, simultaneous interpretation(SI) is popular for itsrapidness and least time lag. With the deepening of globalization and China’s graduallygaining ground in the arenas like economy, politics, culture, society and environment, theexchanges of China with the world is continuously expanding, bring about great demand insimultaneous interpretation between Chinese and other languages. Now that English is themost widely applied language around the globe, the simultaneous interpretation fromEnglish into Chinese naturally becomes an important bridge between China and the worldoutside.Because of the restraint elements like limited time, the syntactic linearity is onecommon instrument to realize the smooth relay of meaning from English into Chinese.However, the logic difference between Chinese and English and other elements make thesyntactic linearity hard to realize smooth interpretation and perfect expression all the time.By reviewing relative theories and summarizing previous stuies, the speech of Obama inthe year of2009and its simultaneous interpretation is selected to analyze the syntacticlinearity skills used in it to help learns of simultaneous interpreting improve their quality ofsimultaneous interpreting in practice.Taking sentences of Obama’s speech in Shanghai as the material, necessity andfeasibility of syntctic linearity in simultaneous interpretation. At last skills of syntacticlinearity in English Chinese simultaneous interpretation are sumarized with the guidance ofrelative theories including the Efforts Model and the Sense theory.Through the analysis of sentences in Obama’s speech in Shanghai, seven syntacticlinearity skills in English-Chinese simultaneous interpretation are drawn, including directconnecting, deletion, repetition, conversion, merging, waiting and tone. Rational use ofthese skills could improve the quality of the interpretation.
