In modern Chinese, there are four widely-used compound nouns of locality:"Neili(内里)”,"Neizhong(内中)”,"Zhongjian(中间)”and"Zhongyang(中央)’’.Because of their similarities on syntax and meaning, as well as their different orientation, these four words can be collectively named as the "Neili(内里)’-type Compound nouns of locality. This thesis focuses on both syntactic and semantic features of those words on synchronic level and their diachronic evolution. It can be mainly stems from three parts.The first part is synchronic study. This part has made surveys on syntactic and semantic features of "Neili(内里)’’-type Compound nouns of locality in modern Chinese, which was combined with concrete contexts. Moreover, it aimed to analyze the features of these four words, and make a delicate comparison among them.The second part is diachronic study. On one hand, through the investigation of ancient Chinese corpus, this part has described original meanings and extended meanings of’Neili (内里)"-type Compound nouns of locality; On the other hand, in order to explain the causes and analogical mechanism of"Neili (内里)’’-type Compound nouns of locality, we divided their diachronic course into several stages, and make surveys on them respectively.The third part is comprehensive study. This part has summarized all the chapters above. Meanwhile, it concluded general features and semantic evolution of the four words from both synchronic and diachronic angle. In this way, the third part indicates the similarities and differences in"Neili (内里)’-type Compound nouns of locality, and finally reach a conclusion.The methods used in this article mainly included synchronic description and diachronic study, as well as quantitative and qualitative analysis. The article also made great effort to come to a conclusion profoundly and thoughtfully.
