Dialect Phenomenon Research In Han Shaogong’s Novels

Carrying different regional cultures, dialect is an essential factor in a characteristic literary style. Inserting proper dialect elements into a work contributes to build vivid characters and present profound regional cultures. Since the new period, many writers have consciously inserted dialect elements into literature to form their ownunique writingstyle. Han Shaogong, a famous Hunan writer, posts a virtual position in the contemporary Chinese literature. He is being on the road of tracing the root of literature since he published The Root of Literature in1985. After that, other masterpieces of tracing literature has been published, such as Bababa, Nvnvnv and Maqiao Dictionary. As the main force of Tracing the Root of Literature, Han Shaogong’s Root lies in the language, especially for the dialect. This essay mainly makes a research on the dialect phenomenon in Han Shaogong’s work from the aspect of dialect application and explores what functions a dialect will affect on characters’creation and regional culture’s presenting. The essay is divided into five parts:Introduction:This part introduces the relationship between dialects and the literature, the basic situation and creative process of Han Shaogong.It also elaboratescurrent research status of dialects in literary works and the research contents, significance and method of the essay. The general situation of dialect phenomenon in Han Shaogong’s work. It explores the motivation of Han’s dialects inserted in the work from mother tongue complex and life experience, the love and tracing to Xiangchu culture, the inheritance of dialect inserted in the work. This part summarizes the creative process of Han Shaogong’s dialect in the work and the presentation method and characteristics of dialect elements in Han’s work.The characteristics and performance function of the dialect application in Han Shaogong’s work. It mainly analyzes the dialect nouns, verbs, adjectivesand idiom ballads in Han’s work and explores their literature expression and performancefunctions of the regional culture.Maqiao Dictionary--a dictionary novel with the performance object of dialect discourse.Regarding Maqiao Dictionary, the masterpiece of Tracing the Root of Literature as research object, this part explores Han Shaogong’s characteristics and dialect expression.Conclusion. It summarizes the conclusion and innovation of the essay and discusses theexisting problems and the further research problems.
