This is a report on the translation of Power and Choice---An Introduction toPolitical Science(Chapter5: Economic Policies of the state),which was written byW. Phillips Shively, a professor of political science in the University of Minnesota. InChapter5, the writer explores how the power impacts on a state’s economy, how thepolitical economy studies the interactions between a state and its economy, and howthe political science analyzes economic policies. The report consists of four chapters:Chapter One elaborates on the report, including its background, objectives andsignificance. Chapter Two pictures the background of the source text, including theprofile of the author, main contents, the text type and features of the source text.Chapter Three, the most important section of this report, is divided into three parts:translation theory, strategies and difficulties. Since the source text is informative, thetranslator adopts correspondent translation methods under the guidance ofcommunicative translation. In the last part, the author makes a summary of thelessons and unsolved problems in the translation.
