China is the birthplace of tea,and tea culture has a long history.With the development of the Maritime Silk Road,Chinese tea culture has spread all over the world.In this process,tea culture has been flourishing continuously,and the translation of tea science has become a bridge for the spread and communication of tea culture in the world.This Chinese to English translation practice report is from professor Zhu Qi’s Introduction to Tea Science.The report describes the translationese problems found in the translation of chapter 16 and other chapters during the review process,focusing on the most linguistically chapters as the research objectives,analyzing the translationese problems in the Chinese to English translation of tea science texts,and then discussing the corresponding translation strategies and solutions.Translationese refers to the phenomenon of foreignization of the translated text or the customary expressions that do not conform to the target text.It is characterized by unnatural,non-fluent,and difficult to comprehend translation.In the review of translation process,the author focus on the phenomenon of translationese in the process of proofreading,and start from the linguistic level and professional background level,describing the manifestations of translationese in detail,the causes of translationese,the effects of translationese,and comparing the original translated text with the author’s translated text.In the “Case Analysis” chapter,some typical cases are selected and analyzed in terms of comprehending the source text,the form of the source text,and the perspective of cultural differences,and the author’s translation strategies and solutions are proposed.Through this translation practice,the author has the following findings: Firstly,the comprehending of the source text is very important.The accuracy of the translation is closely related to the translator’s comprehension ability;Secondly,strengthen the basic skills of language expression.Some translators are bound by the form of the source text and cannot flexibly deal with the grammatical structure with large differences in the order of the sense groups between English and Chinese,which affects the simplicity of the translation;Thirdly,cultural differences are an important factor affecting the quality of the translation.In addition to strengthening the bilingual conversion ability,qualified translators should also supplement the cultural background knowledge of the target language;Lastly,expand the professional knowledge.Strengthening professional knowledge can enhance the professionalism of the translation and highten the acceptability of the target translation.
