This is a report on the translation of Power and Choice:An Introduction toPolitical Science (Chapter3) written by American political science professor W.Phillips. Shively. The book provides a general, comparative introduction to the majorconcepts and themes of political science. Chapter3gives a detailed analysis on state,itsdevelopment, origins and so on. The main contents of this report are divided into fiveparts: Part One is the project description, including project background, objectives andsignificance. Part Two is the background of the source text, including introduction of theauthor, main contents of the source text, analysis of the text type. Part Three is thediscussion of some translation difficulties. As a professional political science textbook,It has a lot of professional and exclusive vocabularies and complex sentences. Part fouris the most important part of the report; it explains the main translation methods appliedin the process of translation according to the guidance of the text typology theory. Thesemethods include literal translation, free translation, and conversion and so on.Morever,it provides vivid analysis on the examples. Part Five concludes with the lessons, insightsand unsolved problems in the translation project.
