This is a translation project report, and its original text is the sixth chapter of A Brief Historyof Death, which is written by Professor Douglas Davis of Durham University God Department.The content of the translation project is mainly to study western death history from the aspect ofreligion, theology and sociology. Because of different religious culture between China and westerncountries, translators should deal with the problem discreetly. Cultural filtering plays a key role tosolve this problem. This project is mainly to study the overt translation and covert translation,combining with the concept of “cultural filtering” raised by American contemporary translatorJuliane House. In order to promote the cross-culture communication, this project makes aconclusion of this “cultural filtering” phenomenon. After an introduction to the background andsignificance of the project, it analyzes the author, main contents, structure and linguistic featuresof the source text. Besides, it discusses the difficult points and translating methods. Finally, thereport summarizes the experiences and lessons gained in the translating and the insufficiencies thatshould be solved in the future. |
