Study Of The Serial-Verb Construction Of Journey To The West

Serial verb construction is a prominent feature on the Chinese syntax, there are many researchers of it. This paper is about all the serial verb constructions in Journey to the West. Journey to the west was written in the common language of the Ming Dynasty. There are a large group of idioms, proverbs and two-part allegorical sayings in the book. These make Journey to the West fully reflect the true face of the Ming Dynasty language. So, journey to the west has great value.This paper consists of five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction, mainly elaborates the selected topic goal and the significance of the research, reviews the research status of Chinese serial verb, and explains the research method.In the second chapter, we analyzed the verbs of the inserial verb, respectively from three aspects:verbs’ingredients, semantic classification of verbs and the order of the verbs.In the third chapter, we analyzed the syntax of the serial verb construction in Journey to the west. First introduced the syntactic structure and characteristics, and then distinguished the serial verb construction and the other constructions.The fourth chapter is the semantic analysis about the serial verb construction of Journey to the west, mainly from the semantic category of the subject, the semantic relationship between the verbs, semantic orientation of the verbs and the modifiers.The fifth chapter is the analysis of pragmatic system of serial verb construction. It summarizes the full text, and points out the confusion and the shortcomings of this article.
