The Impact Of Complex Syntax On Delivery In English To Chinese Consecutive Interpretation And Its Coping Tactics

With China’s rapid economic growth and more frequent international exchanges, interpreters have been playing a more and more significant role.Complex syntax in the English language that is information intensive has been found to affect interpreters’ delivery. During the2013Shanghai Forum and past interpretation practices, the author discovered that complex syntax had a negative impact on delivery. It has been found through verbatim that complex structures in a speech are often not handled properly. The author, therefore, decides to study the impact of complex syntax on delivery in English to Chinese consecutive interpretation and its coping tactics based on her own performance.To begin with, this thesis defines several concepts such as English to Chinese consecutive interpretation, complex syntax and delivery. Then the author summarizes main ideas of the original speech.After that, the author categorizes complex structures and analyzes each one with an example from the original speech.At the end of the thesis, the author recommends some coping tactics.
