Explicitation, as one of the translation universals, has always been a popular object of study among scholars. Explicitation means that a translator makes the translation clearer than the original both from the cohesive perspective and the meaning, changing abstract and implicit information into concrete and explicit expressions. This thesis first studies the definitions of explicitation given by both domestic and foreign scholars and then concludes the author’s own definition. Explicitation includes three aspects of cohesive explicitation, meaning explicitation and pragmatic explicitation.Based on the theory of explicitation, this thesis chooses Chinese Cinderella:The Mystery of the Song Dynasty Painting as the case for study. From the perspectives of inherent differences between Chinese and English languages and children as the target reader, it analyzes the concrete strategies of explicitation that have been used in the translation of the novel, which include addition of conjunctions, sentence reconstruction, transformation of appellation, repetition of the contents mentioned earlier, substitution of abstract information with concrete expressions, addition of extra information and footnotes.
