This is a report of translation on some part of Cinderella in America, which is a collection of the oldest American folk and fairy tales, complied and edited by William Bernard McCarthy who is a professor emeritus of English at Pennsylvania State University.Although storylines in this book are quite common for most children's literature,it is not only a necessity for the translator to consider the features of children's language, using simple, lively, and musical language to tell a story, but also a must to culture and increase children's interest in reading.Based on this translation experience, this report discusses some feasible approaches in translating children's literature.Combining this theory and the analysis of children-based questionnaire, the reporter finds that it is feasible to adopt amplification or deletion in words translation in this field. For example, adding duplication, colloquial or onomatopoetic words can produce a vivid image on readers and adding idioms could in some degree satisfy their curiosity. To long sentences, translators are supposed to use simple or short ones instead of long or complex ones so as not to cause obstacles in reading for young readers. Therefore,it is essential to apply translation skills such as splitting, restructuring, and merging into the translation of long sentences.Besides, the reporter finds out that readers are more likely to accept the version under translation skill of domestication in terms of poetry or ballads in the original tales. For the last part in this chapter,i.e.,translation skills for cultural words, the translator asserts that readers tend to accept the version with liberal translation plus explanation.
