ShangDang Temple Fair Culture Research

Temple fair is a kind of unique religion, entertainment and commodity tradingfolk activities, attached to a particular region in a body’s mass, which is a region offolk culture in the era of an important identity. Geographical environment and socialculture of ShangDang region give birth to its own beliefs and temple fair culture.ShangDang which is the birthplace of Chinese civilization has a profound culturallegacy of the original worship, where people still worship Emperor Yan and otherancient tribal chiefs now. With the development of the times, the temple becomes acomprehensive folk activity, and colorful folk custom is the extension of temple fairculture. Its structure and function is an important part of the temple fair culture.In this paper, combining with the characteristics of natural and humanisticenvironment of ShangDang region, and collecting the local records, literaturecollection, I will sum up the type, ritual, and temple market characteristics ofShangDang temple.Due to environmental and cultural factors, development and distribution of thetemple fair, each region has its own characteristics, which reflect the local customs andpractices. Discussing the structure and function of temple fair culture is an importantpart of the study of folk culture. The temple structure is an important frameworkdetermining its cultural quality. In the study, I will express temple structure by thesurface structure and deep structure. All seeing things are the surface structure, such asthe form of organization, the temple performances. The temple fair function refers tothe social culture in the location, and its role in the world. The temple has two basicfunctions, one is the physical and mental function, and the other is the role of thesocial order.Temple groups of ShangDang region are concentrated, and character regional,hierarchical, and collective. We should analyze its characteristics, culture grade, andprotect and utilize them reasonably.
