The original text of this translation practice material is selected from Regulation No.517/2014 on Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases issued by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union. This Regulation falls into the category of environmental laws and regulations that not only covers a wide range of environmental contents, such as fluorinated greenhouse gases,hydro-fluorocarbons and global warming potential, but also has the characteristics of rigor, standardization and professionalism. In the process of translation practice, the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory was adopted to achieve lexical and syntactic equivalence.First of all,the translator ensured the precise selection of environmental terms and legal terms,as well as appropriate word class conversion of the corresponding words according to the expression habits of Chinese and English.Secondly, the sentence structures in the text was carefully analyzed, especially the passive sentences and the long sentences, and appropriate translation strategies should be adopted for different types of sentences,so as to make the translated text conform to the legal norms on the premise of faithfully conveying the meaning of the original text. This thesis is divided into five chapters.Chapter One is a description of the translation project, mainly introducing the project background, significance, analysis of text type and requirements of the client.Chapter Two is the process description, focusing on the details of the three stages of pre-translation preparation,in-progress translation and post-translation stage.Chapter Three is about the functional equivalence theory.Firstly, the functional equivalence theory is introduced, and then the guiding role of this theory in the translation process is explained.Chapter Four is case analysis, which analyzes the translation methods of environmental and legal terms,as well as the translation strategies of passive sentences and long sentences from the perspective of lexical and syntactic equivalence. The final chapter is the conclusion, which summarizes the experience gained in the process of translating environmental laws and regulations and the difficulties and problems that exist.
