A Study On The Translation Of The Compilation Of Teaching Administration Rules And Regulations Under The Guidance Of Functional Equivalence Theory

With the increasingly deepening of reform and opening up, the global communityhas paid growing attention to China. Thus, as an important material of externalpublicity, the translation of legal text is also growing. This thesis introduces theproject entrusted by Xi’an Fanyi University, which is about The Compilation ofTeaching Administration Rules and Regulations with a total of370,000words.Through the process of the project and case analysis, this paper mainly discusses thetranslation strategies of rules and regulations under the functional equivalence theoryas well as how to achieve the accuracy, legibility and communicative functions of thetranslation by using language transformation techniques in such project. By using themethods of literature research, case analysis, and writing translation log, the authoremphasizes that translators need to have a comprehensive understanding of thetranslation activity which is cross-cultural. Through the analysis of the characteristicsof the source text and the function and purpose of the translation, the author putsforward the basic translation principles and skills of rules and regulations. In theprocess of translation, the author focuses on the implied meaning and concretization ofthe words, uses supplement, ellipsis, and substitution to make the translation natural,and splits the sentence group and integrates it to ensure the accuracy and fluency ofthe translation. For the long sentences, the author adopts the sequential translation,reverse translation, and split translation. According to the different parts of the text,the grammatical person, mood, and emotion shall also be taken into consideration intranslation. The author hopes this essay could provide some help for translators intranslation of such text and operation of such small translation project.
