This article is a translation report. It chooses the famous Japanese language scholar Kawahara Kiyoshi’s Academic papers, which is about translation studies and linguistics research. This article is based on Nida’s theory of equivalence and comparison of Chinese and Japanese academic characteristics, and to research and analysis the translation strategies in specific translation operation of Japanese academic papers. This article is divided into four parts. First part is about the description of translation projects, which includes project background, translation preparation and proofreading. The second is about research review. This part is divided into two parts, as theoretical review and Sino-Japanese academic language comparison. The theoretical review part uses the main ideas of equivalence theory, discusses the theories of dynamic equivalence, functional equivalence, untranslatable degree, the ultimate goal of translation and the arguments in functional equivalence theory. The section about the main characteristics of Sino-Japanese academic papes sets forth in detail about the language characteristics of the Sino-Japanese academic papers, in order to provide guidance to practice. The third part is about case analysis. Based on Nida’s equivalence theory, it targetedly analyses the words and sentences in Japanese academic papers. It also discusses the translation strategies about the problems of structural differences, voice differences, subject differences, pronouns differences, cultural differences. Specific counter-measures contain many translation tactics as of inverted translation, combined translation, reverse translation, converse translation, free translation and add translation. The fouth part is Summary, which reviews the whole translation process, and summarizes the experience and skills of academic translation based on Nida’s equivalence theory, so as to lay a better foundation for future translation practiceThe translation practice gave me a valuable training opportunity, through this experience, I deeply realized the importance of theoretical knowledge accumulation. At the same time this made me recognized that translation is a hard and serious work, and during the translation process one should always hold a serious and responsible attitude.
