The Linguistic Features Of English Academic Papers And Their Translation

As the international academic exchanges become increasingly frequent, people have attached more importance to the translation of academic papers. An academic paper, with some special language features, is different from the writing of other genres. Based on the English-Chinese translation of Content-based ESL instruction: Long-term effects and outcomes, this essay first summarizes the main language characteristics of English academic papers such as the wide use of nominalization, passive sentences, abbreviations, compound words and long sentences and then proceeds to explore the translation methods which are appropriate for English academic papers.
