This is a project report on the translation of A History of Air Warfare, a military history work on the large-scale thematic air warfare. The excerpts of this report are from chapter12"Operation Iraqi Freedom,2003" of part four "2000-2006". This project is the collaboration between a publishing group and professors from the School of Foreign Studies of Anhui University. The translated work on military history can help Chinese people know more about the air warfare and intensify the translation skills of the author.Problems in the translation process lie in exactly understanding the original text, how to fine down the choice of words and construct sentence to best deliver the information in the source text to Chinese readers. Thus Skopos Theory is chosen as the guidance on the translated work, and some related translation strategies are used to solve those problems, for example, strategy of conversion and flexile translation. In general, a good translator needs solid theoretical basis, adept translation skills, rich knowledge reserves and profound writing knowledge etc. This report is altogether composed of four parts:Part One is an introduction consisting of the background, origin, significance and components of the translation project; Part Two is the introduction to the background, the authors, the version and main contents of the source text.; Part Three is the kernel of the report, including the difficulties encountered and the various translation strategies adopted to settle those problems under the guidance of Skopos Theory of translation; Part Four is a conclusion of lessons from the translation and problems to be solved in the future. Among these four parts, Part Three is the key part.
