A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of The Texts On Economic History

In recent years,with the development of economic globalization,the economic and trade exchanges between China and the West are increasingly strengthened.It has become a hot topic in China to understand and study the western economy.As the largest economy in the world,the economic development history of the United States has become the focus of the researches in economic field.Therefore,this paper selects The Rise and Fall of American Growth written by Robert J.Gordon as the translation material,aiming at understanding the development of the western economy,especially the U.S.economy,and deepening the understanding of economic development as a wholeThis article is a report of the translation from English to Chinese.Based on Skopos theory,this report makes a research and analysis of economic history texts in order to solve the specific problems encountered in the translation process and explores the translation strategies of economic history texts.The three principles of Skopos theory,namely,Skopos principle,coherence principle and fidelity principle must be followed during the translation process.This practice report makes a careful analysis of the characteristics of the selected texts of economic history at lexical,syntactic and textual levels,works out the characteristics-related translation techniques that may apply to texts of economic history in general,and translates the content faithfully and coherently for the acceptance of the readers.This translation practice report consists of five chapters,including the overview of the translation project,the description of the translation process,the theoretical framework,the case study and the summary of the practice.The first chapter mainly introduces the background,purpose and significance of this translation project.The second chapter describes the plan of the translation project in detail,including the preparation before translation,the plan in translation and the arrangement of matters after translation.The third chapter is the theoretical basis of this report.The author summarizes the connotation of Skopos theory and the current situation of translation studies of economic history texts,and analyzes the feasibility of Skopos theory in guiding this practice.In the fourth chapter,some specific cases encountered in translation and the characteristics of selected texts in terms of lexicon,sentence and text structure are analyzed in detail.The suggested techniques of translation are worked out in close relation to the characteristics analyzed out of the selected texts.Chapter Five is a summary of the report.The translation of economic history texts aims to present historical facts,to add a historical perspective to economic analysis,to learn from history,and thus to guide contemporary economic development.This report applies Skopos theory to the translation of economic texts,explores the characteristics of economic history texts,and sums up effective translation methods,which can provide some references for the translation strategies of similar texts in the future...
