English and Chinese are different in terms of expression and cultural connotations,and this certainly increases the difficulty of translating popular novels. How to employrelated theories to improve translation quality has therefore become a focus worthstudying.Under the guidance of Semantic Translation (ST) and Communicative Translation(CT) Theory, this translation practice report analyses the major strategies adopted intranslating the novel The Woggle-Bug Book by L. Frank Baum.The practice report consists of five chapters. Chapter1introduces the relevantinformation of the source text, requirements of entrusting party, and target readers. Chapter2describes pre-translation preparations, translation process, proofreading and publisher’sfeedback. Chapter3elaborates on ST and CT Theory as the theoretical framework andhow to apply this theory in the translation of the novel. Chapter4focuses on case analysisand discusses the relevant translation strategies for proper nouns, long and complicatedsentences, figures of speech, and non-English languages. Chapter5sums up the practicereport and the guiding significance of ST and CT Theory for the translation of novels.It is hoped that this translation report will be illuminating and beneficial forEnglish-Chinese translation of popular novels.
