The source text chosen for this translation practice report is the book Translation Changes Everything: Theory and Practice, which was written by theorist Lawrence Venuti. This book gathers a selection of essays which have been published by Lawrence Venuti since 2000.In short, this book is a comprehensive description and summary of Venuti's theoretical system, placing the author's future vision on translation studies and expressing his thoughts on various aspects of translation.Chapters translated by the translator are Chapter 9,“Translation Works in the Book Market” and Chapter 14 “Towards Translation Culture”.According to Peter Newmark's text type theory,Translation Changes Everything:Theory and Practice is an informative text. The translator chooses the communicative translation as the major strategy and semantic translation as the supplementary strategy in the process of translation. In terms of translation methods, different translation methods like conversion, extension and omission are used at lexical, syntactic, cultural and textual levels so as to solve the difficult problems confronted in the process of translation.Through this translation project, the translator has learnt a lot and deepened an understanding of translation theory and practice, laying a foundation for future translation practice.
