This is a project report on the translation of the book entitled The Historic Influence of English on China edited by Niu Daosheng. This book introduces historic influences on China English has from different perspectives. The excerpts of this report are from the second segment and the third segment of Chapter1of this book, which mainly deals with the first historical contact of the Sino-British language and culture and was about some pioneers of the exchanges of the Sino-British language and culture.The report is divided into four parts:Part One introduces the background, origin, and significance of the translation project, and the main components of the report of the translation project. Part Two is the introduction to the background, the author, the version and main contents of the source text. Part Three resolves around the quality control of translation including the difficulties encountered in the course of translation and the various strategies adopted, based on Nida’s theory of translation "Functional Equivalence", to settle these problems. Part Four concludes with the enlightenments obtained and lessons learned from the translation, and also with suggestions for future translation.
