The term "inspire and associate" refers to a general approach to stimulate inspiration andto motivate thinking by skillfully clarifying logics and making key points about things. With thecontext of education, this paper talks about "inspire and associate" as a type of teaching method,which aims to effectively arose independent, innovative, unique and meaningful thinkingduring class. Based on various teaching objectives, contents and target groups, this method canbe practiced as an educational strategy to encourage self-learning and initiative among students.The method "inspire and associate" is further classified in Orff teaching practices into fourapproaches: by words, by sound, by shape and by gesture. By looking into real cases about eachof them, this paper will draw conclusion on their features and general rules. Besides, based onthe four approaches of "inspire and associate", a survey questionnaire is generated to collectfeedbacks from Orff classes to see how they are being applied. With investigation and analysis,the survey studies the differences in terms of teachers’practices, students’motivation andattitude about "inspire and associate" between the four approaches. Additionally, the surveyalso explores how the four approaches are related to students’performance in multi-dimensional,cross-topic and innovative thinking. These analytical results will be used to verify the positiveeffects on creativity and flexibility of students that "inspire and associate" brings into Orffclasses.
