Materialism is the kind of personal value which emphasizes on the occupying of mater. With the rapid development of our country’s economy, The influence of materialism is gradually expanding.College students are in a critical period of the establishment of the correct outlook on life and values, therefore, it is necessary to study college students’ materialism.Objective:This study is based on the cultural background of our county. To know about the current situation of college students’ materialism. To investigate the effects of demographic variables on college students’materialism. To explore the relationship of materialism, gratitude and subjective well-being about college students.Methods:572college students from nine universities in Hunan Province were tested with Material Values Scale, Gratitude Questionnaire-6and Subjective Well-Being Scale.Results:①The study suggested that college students’ materialism and its dimensions were significant differences in gender, school type, family residence, whether only child, family income and other demographic variables.②College students’ materialism and its dimensions were significantly negative correlated with life satisfaction, positive affect and general subjective well-being; College students’ materialism and its dimensions were significantly positive correlated with negative affect. College students’ gratitude were significantly positive correlated with life satisfaction, positive affect and general subjective well-being; College students’ gratitude were significantly negative correlated with negative affect. College students’ materialism and its dimensions were significantly negative correlated with gratitude.③Multi-regression analysis showed that college students’ gratitude played a partial mediating role between materialism and subjective well-being.Conclusion:Materialism and gratitude were correlated with subjective well-being in college students. Gratitude played a partial mediating role between materialism and subjective well-being.
