Economic terms are the carriers of economic theory and concept, and the crystal of the knowledge in economics, and it is the tool for further research of economics. The translation of western economic terms is in full development, but the problem of how to translate the economic terms accurately and standardly has been up in the air. Economic textbooks shoulder the responsibility of education. Thus, the translated terms should be the model for other books in terms of accuracy and standardization. There are quantities of new economic terms in Krugman’s Essential of Economics. How to translate the terms with accuracy and standardization is a difficulty to be overcome. The paper first explained what the economic term was, and classified the characteristics of economic terms. Then, the paper proposed the terminological competence and the sense of terminological translation of translator’s own. The new emerging terms in the textbook were translated under the principles of accuracy, conciseness, transparency and terminologization. At last, the translation methods were proposed, such as natural equivalence, information implementation and borrowing the terms with similar meaning from other majors. Natural equivalence was preferred, if Chinese equivalent terms existed. Information implementation would be applied, if the meaning was severely missing by natural equivalence. If the term did not exist in Chinese economics, while the similar meaning of the term existed in other majors, it was advisable to borrow the terms from other majors.
