Translation Practice Locomotive Term Report

Specialized vocabulary and term translation is the basic and key point for an excellent translation of scientific and technical literatures. All researches in this report are based on the author’s translation experiences of technical papers in cooperation with Beijing Feb.7th Railway Transportation Equipment Co., Ltd. Firstly, the report generally summaries the tasks, procedures, and operation of the whole translation project, and presents the tasks into five categories of problems as the compound word translation, derivative word translation, choice of pictographic translation, sound-semantic translation for words, polyseme translation. Then, referring to the existing translation methods and basic principles, the report conducts a close observation and analysis on the specialized vocabulary and term translation with concrete case studies. According to the analysis, the author points out the importance of the disunity and inaccuracy of the specialized vocabulary and term translation, and proposes three relevant guidelines:the principle of conforming to the standardization of Chinese scientific and technological terms; the principle of accuracy and one word with one meaning; the principle of clarity and conciseness.
