This thesis is a translation report, based on the English translation of the academic paper Blockchain Negotiable Instruments(BNI): Essence,Legal Nature and Characteristics, which was published in Oriental Law Vol.03 in 2019.The source text gives an extended and in-depth analysis of blockchain technology and negotiable instruments. The specialized use of technical words and expressions employed is unfamiliar to the layman. Those linguistic patterns require accurate, precise and consistent translation.Obviously, how to translate the technical terms and expressions is key to the task. The author analyzes the difficulties in term translation and provides corresponding solutions.Difficulties in term translation the author faces in the process of translation, can be classified into four types: semantically related terms, nominalization, polysemy and titles of Chinese legislative texts. As for semantically related terms, usually in pairs,we first manage to confirm how to translate one of them, and then infer another successfully before affirmation. For nominalized patterns(which herein refer to terms with wordfinal “xing”),they can be translated in adjective or noun forms based on the context. When translating polysemous terms, the author can use online dictionaries or encyclopedias to find out all of translated versions, and then compare them on the basis of the context. In terms of titles of legislative texts,we first seek for the equivalent terms in common legal system, and then verify whether they are true and accurate with original ones at the semantic level. In short, the author analyzes difficulties in term translation by way of case analysis, proposes methods and summarizes experience and lessons, with a view to improving the author's translation skill. The author hopes that this report can provide guidance for translators who have been engaged in the translation of such texts.
