A Report On C-E Translation Of Words With Ethnic Features In Enshi, China

This thesis is a report on the C-E translation of words with ethnic features in Enshi, China. In the thesis, words with ethnic features in Enshi, China have been analyzed, and it is discovered that they are mainly words about local food, local customs, local art, local handicrafts, historical relics, architectures and tourist resorts, and that they have such features as being metaphorical and exaggerated, originating from folklores or historical allusions, being plain, straightforward, poetical and philosophical etc. Based on the content and features of the words, the thesis has adopted foreignization supplemented by domestication as the guiding principle, and following the principle, the methods of transliteration, transliteration with annotation, literal translation, literal translation with annotation and free translation have been selected for the translation. The result of the translation shows that the selected principle and methods have provided very good guidance to the translation of the words with ethnic features in Enshi, China,and have resulted in the good quality of the translation and the successful spreading of the Tujia and Miao culture in Enshi.
