The original text used for this translation project is the last chapter of Far From the Tree:Parents, Children and the Search for Identity, which was written by Andrew Solomon andpublished in2012. This book discusses psychology of exceptional children and the impact societyimposed to them by centering on the writer’s experience as a clue.Rhetoric, terminology and culture-loaded words are the key points and difficult points in thisoriginal text. Besides, there are many difficulties for lack of professional knowledge aboutexceptional children. During the process of translation, the translation project has finished bydepending on translation theories and skills and consulting psychology books as well as adoptingtranslation skills, such as translation dichotomy and foreignization, in order to represent thewriter’s intention in translation. However, there are still unsolved issues and deficiencies raised in the project, which is hopedthat it will be improved in the future.
