In recent years,China has increased investment in lithium battery projects,especially in the new infrastructure of 5G networks and new energy vehicles.Therefore,it is important to absorb and exchange some advanced lithium-ion battery technologies by translating works or materials on this subject,which would greatly promote the development of new energy industry.A Systems Approach to Lithium-ion Battery Management is a scientific monograph written by Phillip Weicker,which systematically expounds the battery management system technology of large-scale lithium-ion batteries,and discusses the development prospect of lithium-ion battery management system,is selected as the translation project.This report mainly selects the first four chapters for translation,and tries to explore the application and guidance of Adaptation Theory in the translation of sci-tech texts,aiming at summarizing the translation strategies and methods and improving the translation quality of sci-tech texts.Through literature review,this report chooses Adaptation Theory as the theoretical basis,so as to effectively guide the practice of sci-tech translation,which maintains contextual adaptation and linguistic structure adaptation for translating sci-tech texts to achieve the information communication effect.Based on the theoretical guidance,focusing on the purpose of information exchange of sci-tech texts,dynamic adaptation is carried out in translation practice from the aspect of contextual adaptation and linguistic structure adaptation.By case studies,the translation skills and methods of sci-tech texts are summarized.This study draws the following conclusions:(1)In order to achieve the purpose of information exchange of sci-tech texts,Adaptation Theory can be used to guide sci-tech translation from two aspects: Contextual adaptation and linguistic structure adaptation.(2)Under the Adaptation Theory,linguistic structure and context play a two-way role,in which the author should make dynamic choice and adaptation.(3)In the process of translating sci-tech texts,translators may adapt to the stylistic features of the sci-tech texts,meet readers’ expectations,so as to accurately convey sci-tech information.(4)In the process of translating sci-tech texts,translators can exert subjective initiative in linguistic structure and word selection,and take parallel corpora and self-made terminology database to improve translation quality.Through the analysis,this report holds that the translation process is one in which translators make language choices and adaptation constantly during the information transformation of two languages.It shows that the Adaptation Theory perspective has strong explanatory power and applicability to the translation practice of scientific texts.
