Russia’s Relations With Kyrgyzstan

After cold war, Kyrgyzstan gained independence, becoming the emerging independent countries in Central Asia. Despite the founding history is short, but Kyrgyzstan has an important strategic position, which is the focus of Eurasia geopolitical competition, has a rich and varied mineral resources. Russia and Kyrgyzstan used to be the same country, the Russian-Kyrgyz relations has kind of particularity, which laid a solid foundation for bilateral friendship between the two countries. Politically, Russia and Kyrgyzstan had made a number of treaties of friendship after1992, Kyrgyzstan can be called the most closely related country to Russia in Central Asia. Economically, the basis for cooperation and development status of Russia and Kyrgyzstan is relatively weak. However, due to the economic structure of the two countries are complementary, so the potential for further development of trade relations between Russia and Kyrgyzstan is great.In the military, Kyrgyzstan relies heavily on the protection of Russia, and the two countries have signed a basic treaty involving national military security. Though Russia and Kyrgyzstan had launched comprehensive cooperation and dialogue about politics, economic and military between the two countries, there are still conflicts and disputes. Since there is a great asymmetry in the power of Russia and Kyrgyzstan, Kyrgyzstan’s development is more dependent on the support of Russia, which to some extent affected the long-term development of the Kyrgyz, and made the people in Kyrgyzstan worried their future.In order to further improve the bilateral relations between Russia and Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Kyrgyzstan both need to do some adjustments to their own policy. On one hand, Russia and Kyrgyzstan need to bring the geographic and ethnic cultural superiority to play; On the other hand, the two countries should strengthen the security and economic cooperation. Judging from the current situation, the Russian-Kyrgyz relations in the future will further strengthen and reinforce, because it’s the only way that Kyrgyzstan can obtain economic development and the protection of military security, and Russia can consolidate its traditional sphere of influence in Central Asia.
