The Risk And Countermeasures Of Sino-Russian Oil And Gas Cooperation

In China’s international energy cooperations, the Sino-Russian oil and gas resources cooperation has special geopolitical significance. Geopolitics has closely relationship with politic power and provide decision-making service for the nation by analyzing various geographic conditions. The resources of oil and gas has unique properties both in politics and in economy which is the main focus of geopolitics. Using the geopolitics theory to analyze energy safety become a new trend in academic circle. With the rapid development of economy, the cooperation of oil and gas resources between China and Russia is a strategic initiative of solving the energy problem of China for being the biggest energy-consumption country, and realizing the energy safety. But the oil and gas cooperation between China and Russia is confronting two risks,one is from Russia itself,and the other is from international community. Thus, in order to analyze these risks and come up with some countermeasures, we should apply the geopolitics and its related theories,which can better safeguard energy security in China and also the national interests, then to realize the great rejuvenation of China.Through the data analysis and comparative analysis,my thesis will be divided into four parts. In the first place, i briefly explain the basic meaning of geopolitics theory in the lead-in part. Then i make detailed introduction to the situation of the Sino-Russian oil and gas cooperation and its geopolitics role. In this part, firstly i make conclusions to the specific circumstances of Sino-Russian cooperation in the oil, natural gas, oil and gas pipeline, and list the cooperative situations between China and Russia in these areas of recent years. Secondly, i elaborate the strategic geopolitics function which produced by the oil and gas cooperation between China and Russia. The cooperation between the two countries can reduce the dependence degree on European market for Russia, help Russia get the geographical advantages in Asia, and provide better opportunities for economic development of the Russian Far East area. From a long-term view, it is conducive to the relationship between the two countries, and to the stability of Northeast Asia. Thirdly, i just make some researches about the factors which will influence the the cooperation of oil and gas resources between China and Russia,and also the risks which exist in this cooperation. One is from the perspective of influence factors, such as, eastern Russia geopolitical environment, the influence from great powers (including United States, Japan and the European Union), mutual benefits. The other is the main risks, including mutual political trust, prices, geopolitical issues about the transportation and pipelines of energy. Finally, i mainly put forward some relevant countermeasures towards these influences and risks.The oil and gas resources cooperation between China and Russia is confronting with numerous geopolitics risks, we should analyze the unfavorable factors, rationally take advantage of the favorable factors, to reduce the impact of other political forces and maximize the security of Sino-Russian resources cooperation, and maintain national interests and geopolitical interests of China.
