China has a large number of population, women account for half of thiscountry’s population, and they play an important role in the national political,economic, social field. National laws are explicitly stipulated women’s political rights,and guaranteed the equal status of women. Suffrage for women is an importantcontent for women to exercise political rights. Women’s participation in politics is avital content of political civilization, it cannot be ignored in political civilization.Female participation in politics in China has experienced different eras from ancienttimes to the present, and it has form stable mechanism of women’s participation inpolitical, which has experienced very few women interventions-liberation of womenconsciousness-legal protection of women’s suffrage. After the founding of newChina, women’s suffrage mechanism has been further development, and with theimprovement of education and the awakening of individual consciousness, women’ssuffrage consciousness gradually enhance, and part of the elite female step on leaderposition and contribute to national political and economic development.Women’s participation in politics is the important measure of whether womenequally participate in country management, hence, it is important to improve themechanism of female participation in politics, and in accordance with law, guaranteethe right of women’s participation in politics. It is conducive to the progress anddevelopment of women themselves, and has benefit to improve the country’s politicalsystem construction, also has benefit to promote political harmony and social stability.However, women participation in politics still exist some issues in modern China, likeparticipation mechanism, incentive mechanism, guarantee mechanism, etc. It hasgreat significance for national economic and social development and civilization ofthe Chinese nation by perfecting female participation mechanism, improving theability of women to participate in politics, and protecting the rights of women toparticipate in politics.This essay has four main sections:In prodromes, it contains the connotation of women’s suffrage and theinterpretation of history. In this part, this thesis states the value and the status offemale participation mechanism firstly, and then defines the concept of femalesuffrage, it considers that female suffrage mainly refers to through a variety of ways,directly or indirectly affect political behavior of national and social public affairs, thusit extracts the concept of female suffrage mechanism. After that, this thesis reviewsand analyzes the history of female suffrage in China. The second part is the formation and development of female suffrage in modernChina. In this part, author firstly combs the historical development of Chinese womensuffrage. The author summarizes characteristics of contemporary Chinese womenpolitical participation, and focusing on analyze the formation and development ofwomen political participation mechanism after the founding of new China. The authoralso expounds the formation and development of political participation mechanism,incentive mechanism, and political security mechanism.The third part is about the defects in the process of operation of female suffragemechanism in New China. The defects of participation mechanism are the vulnerableof female participation consciousness, the weakness of women’s leadershipcompetence, and less number of female politician especially in leadership group. Thedefects of safeguard mechanism are interest restructure leading to the infringement ofwomen’s rights; policies and regulations are not sound resulting in the harm ofwomen’s rights. The defects of training incentive mechanism are the unsound ofincentive mechanism, the lack of effective training and selection mechanism.The fourth part is reforming and improving female suffrage mechanism. Thissection firstly describes the “minimum proportion principles” women’s suffrage inNordic countries, and then analyzes successful experiences and lessons of Nordicwomen’s suffrage under this system. In addition, this section raises perfect measuresfor female suffrage mechanism in China.
