In recent years,the competitive election of cadres in Guangzhou has been at theforefront in China. Officials election in the level of a deputy Bureau and that of a section, aswell as that of a under subordinate authority of municipality has been conducted in public.Competitive election has been a main method to elect officials. As Competitive electionbecoming more and more important, problems in normalization, technical rationality andsuitability have been found. At present, Officials who was elected are generally young,passionate, and well educated, but they are also in lack of experience and interpersonal skills.On the basis of previous studies, this research studies pattern of competitive election inaspects of the result, problems and causes of the problems by means of document research,case analysis, survey, archival analysis and interview. Especially the experience and problemsin Guangzhou, namely canvassing, exam-oriented evaluation, lack of investigatingideologically and morally, and large cost. Meanwhile, based on targeted evaluation, advicehas been given in reforming the benchmark of a position, and of reinforcing written exam andinterview, as well as of the professional ways to evaluate. This research appoints thatcompetitive election is useful to improve the suitability between officials and the position,and evaluation of mental quality, ideological assessment, weight of the official assessment,complement of the prospectus of a position should be reinforced. It is theoretical significantin competitive election, and functional in competitive election in Guangzhou MunicipalGovernment.
