Sino-Indian relations is a rich, long and complex relationship. Being theback-to-back neighbors, China and India are the largest countries of East Asia andSouth Asia respectively, and they all have the great potential to become a world power. As in a stage of rapid development, how to locate the identity between China and Indiawill have an important impact on Asia and the world. The Sino-Indian relations afterWorld War II is full of changes. Being good at explaining identity and interests,Constructivism provides a new perspective and idea to explain the Sino-Indianrelations. This article is based on Constructivism identity theory, trying to analyze theformation and transformation of Sino-Indian role identity after World War II.The identity theory under the framework of structural constructivism is asystematic and comprehensive identity theory. Alexander Wendt describes andclassifies the concept of identity systematically for the first time, and put forward thelogic assumption of social identity formation and transformation theory. Structuralconstructivism holds that it is the conceptual structure that constructs the identities andinterests of actors, thereby defining the behavior pattern. Conceptual structure isachieved by norms internalized. Internalization determines whether this culture can bestable for a long time or not. For each culture, there are three different levels ofinternalization, they are force, price, and legitimacy. As conceptual structure isreflected by the role identity, this article tries to analyze the role identity transformationby the internalization level of the conceptual structure.Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in1950, the course of Sino-Indianrelations in the past63years can be attributed to two cultures, that is, Kantian cultureduring the1950s and Lockian culture since the late1950s up to now. At present, theinternalization level of Lockian culture is deepening, which bring difficulties for theevolution of the role identity between the two countries. As the internalization level ofLockian culture is deepening and tends to recreat itself, how can China and Indiaconstruct a new cultural, and how the competition role evolute to the friend role. Thisis the question that structural constructivism cannot solve. However, processualconstructivism holds that the process itself can provide the driving force for role identity transformation, and establish, maintain and strengthen the emotional relations. As for China and India, they can strengthen their ties, broaden the scope of theircooperation, and maintain the interaction process through good interactive processbetween them, thus enhancing the mutual trust and avoid the doubt between each other, establishing the positive emotions. Therefore the Sino-Indian relations can have a moresolid foundation, making “Chindia” come true.
