The20th century is a century in which the United States has headed forhegemony, and the21st century is a century in which the United States consolidatesand maintains hegemony. In just a few decades, the United States has taken part to theworld, and finally become the only superpower at the end of the20th century; thesesuccesses are inextricably linked with the strong economic strength of the UnitedStates. Therefore, study the influence of U.S. economy on the U.S. hegemony has animportant part in how China can enhance comprehensive national strength.At first, this paper states the theoretical basis of the economy and hegemony.This paper analysis two relative theories hegemony cycle theory and economy cycletheory which is commonly used on the international politics and economy. Then thispaper has outlined the historical development, the characteristics and causes of theU.S. hegemony. At first, it defines the meaning of hegemony, and then it divides theU.S. hegemonic development into three parts as the formation, development anddeepening and considers that the U.S. hegemony has both similarities and differenceswith the traditional hegemony and the U.S. hegemony formation has its own reasons.Then it comes to the main part of this paper, it started from the economy has statedthe effect and the influence of the economy and its various parts such as the dollar,industry, science and technology, international organizations and multinationalcorporations on the U.S. hegemony. After this main part, this paper describes theinfluence of the U.S. hegemony status on the world economy and stability, U.S.economy and China’s economy, military and culture. In the end of this paper, it hasstated domestic policy and foreign policy should be adopted by China in theinternational environment on the background of American hegemony.The author thinks that U.S. economy has played an important role in theformation, development and deepening of U.S. hegemony. After World War II, withits strong economic strength accumulated after the war of independence, the UnitedStates has seized the opportunities in the continuous economically globalized world,and has established its hegemonic governance on the foundation of economichegemony. During the Cold War, the United States has eventually won in aconfrontation with the former Soviet Union by virtue of its strong economic strength. After the end of the Cold War, the United States has grasped the unipolar hegemonyin its pocket which is closely related with its strong economic base. Therefore, theU.S. economy has become a solid foundation for the formation and consolidation ofthe U.S. hegemony.
