As our society progresses, the rapid developments of science, technology and economy put forward higher requirements for our comprehensive intelligence ability. Yet as for our emotion and morality, we have practically got lost in this modern materialistic society, with every corner of which there are deficiencies in belief, breeding ground for corruption, and spiritual vacuum filled as social phenomenon. We should be aware of the emergency need to face a severe social problem:the great improvement of people’s living standard does not necessarily bring out the improvement of people’s spiritual life, on the contrary, it will inevitably lead people to pursuit excessive material enjoyment which merely results in lag and lack of our spirit. Our mental dynamic needs to strengthen, which, on the other hand, is becoming more and more underrated. The unbalance caused by this contradiction has greatly influenced and hindered the all-round development of the human beings and society. Therefore, in order to seek a solution to resolve the prominent conflict between the lack of spiritual motivation and the appeal to highlight it, as well as develop people’s spiritual motivation and promote the comprehensive development of man and society, the study on how to strengthen the spiritual motivation must be earnestly practiced.This article in the introduction part, mainly expounds the value of studying the spiritual motivation, the background of questions proposed, the research status of spiritual motivation and the methods used in my research. In the essence part comprehensively arranges Marx’s thought of spiritual motivation, and, with analyzing every word of classic expressions of Marx and Engels, summarizes the connotation and characteristics of Marx’s spiritual motivation. In the value and significance part, the Marx’s thought of spiritual motivation and non-Marx’s thought of that are compared, embodying the scientificalnesses and advancements of Marx’s thought, which mainly expounds the guiding role of Marx thought on contemporary Chinese society.
