Values education of the youth has always been an important issue in society andeducation, but also a vital element to strengthen and improve ideological&moral constructionand ideological&political education. Chinese youth issue of values education has becomeincreasingly prominent, important, necessary and urgent due to the objective situation of thetransformation of Chinese society and diversification of adults’ social values orientation.Currently, to meet the requirements of the social development, it has become an inevitablerequirement of the Ideological and Political Education reform that we gradually explore a setof new pattern and methods of the education of young people.This paper is divided into five parts, the first part is about the brief discussions anddefinitions of several important concepts covered in this article, which laid a theoreticalfoundation for the use of these terms scientifically and regularly and to express their viewsclearly.The second part is a review of history of the China Youth Values Education after thefounding of PR China, and a detailed analysis issues and challenges of the current status ofthe youth values. Compared with the previous youth, mainstream of the youth values is activeand healthy, harmonious and progressive, but at the same time problems existing are notoptimistic. These problems are mainly reflected in:(1) on the whole: the values orientation isshifted from the traditional social standard to personal standard, more emphasis onself-realization;(2) from social standard to the combination of collective social standard andindividual standard;(3) shift from the traditional single neat ideal to a modern, secularized,pluralistic, materialistic pursuit of reality. The main reason is the lost of traditional values, thefatigue of mainstream culture, the extrusion of examination-oriented education and thecollective power of educations is not obvious, in addition, there are the facts of individualyouth development and growing characteristics. Youth values education is facing many newchallenges: factors from the international point of view, the trend of world multi-polarizationand economic globalization gradually accelerated, ideological and cultural clash between theEast and the West goes on, socialism is at a low ebb, Western hostile forces are stepping up the implementation of the strategic scheme of "Westernization" and "split"; environment fromthe domestic point of view, mainly the reform and opening up and the establishment of thesocialist market economic system, led to the diversification of interests, conflicts in socialtransition period have become increasingly prominent; coupled with the acceleration of theprocess of globalization and the arrival of networked information society, also posed achallenge for traditional values education.Section III presents the educational objectives, models, and the concerning contents ofthe system of youth values education in the new period. This paper argues that the currentobjectives of the Youth Value education should cover basic goals, the dominant objectivesand the highest goal, involving young people’s civic awareness, patriotism, collectivismvalues and the communist ideology; based on the analysis of the traditional values ofeducation, drawing on Western values clarification theory and constructivist theory,advocated the establishment of a new model of state-dominated values education combinedwith youth body, this mode of education, with the purpose of raising the capacities of students,can not only reflect the strengthening education of socialist core values, but also with fullrespect for the dominant position of the educated. Under the guidance of the teachingobjectives, the paper tries to put forward a series of related the content systems.Part IV describes the innovation methods on youth values education in the new period.On youth values education from the enhanced practicality and maneuverability, combinedwith the performance of the youth values, make a summary of exploration and innovationmainly from eight pillars which are, to use of the network as the representative of the massmedia and other new means, combining class-education and extra-curricular education,combining theoretical education and practical education, example education andself-education, combining inhabitation of the fine traditional culture and learning from theresults of the education of Western values, combining the basic civilization and socialistleading value outlook, combining the indoctrination and sensory experience.
