Tails are the rest wastes from the original ores selected the useful metallicelement, after the original ores are crushed,screened,grinded,classified,thenoverweight,separation, flotation and cyanide dressing processes and so on,which contain few useful components.At present, most of tails are placed in the tailings pond. The way of tailsplaced is safety and environmental hazard. With the development of the pasteenrichment technology, tails paste ground pile will be a safe and new options,instead of the traditional tails piled up, namely tails dry stacked, which is betterthan the way of conventional tailings pile. Therefore, tails can be made the paste,and then placed in the form of the paste. However, the particle size of the pasteis required. Thus, tails must be classified in the process of paste made.Hydro-cyclone, which is used widely, is fractionation equipment.Compared to other separation equipment, it has many advantages: highseparation efficiency, convenient operation, simple process, compact structure,equipment of small volume, light weight, covering a less area, no moving parts,long service life, easy to realize continuous operation and automaticcontrolled,etc. We can take advantage of the hydro-cyclone to classify tails.In the paper,as a example of the tails of Numerous temple country inShanxi province, tailings grading cyclone is simulated numerically by usingGAMBIT and computational fluid dynamics software FLUENT. It obtains thepressure and velocity of iron tailings pulp. And it analyses the concentration of the iron tails in the hydro-cyclone, which explains the cyclone has concentratedfunction of iron tailings pulp.On the basis of the numerical simulation of tailings grading cyclone, itfurther studied the various process parameters on the tailings grading cycloneseparation performance and the influence of the pressure drop. Through theanalysis and study, the influence law of process parameters on them is obtained.Through the theoretical analysis of process parameters on the tailings gradingcyclone separation performance and the influence law of pressure drop, it hastheoretical guidance meaning on the hydro-cyclone used to classify tails in thepractical production process.
