Vulcanized rubber powder is granular powder which produced by scrap rubber crushed by machines. Vulcanized rubber powder with dense three-dimensional network structure has lost its activity. Therefore, when vulcanized rubber powder is used with raw rubber, the compatibility between vulcanized rubber powder and the matrix material is very poor, so the performance of composite materials is not good. However, surface modification of vulcanized rubber powder is able to resolve the problem. In this paper, for the problem of re-using scrap vulcanized rubber powder, a series of crumb rubber modified experiment were carried out. The method of chemical additives and mechanical force chemical were used, and then the modified rubber powder was added to natural rubber. The crumb rubber/natural rubber vulcanizates were prepared. The performance of modified rubber power was compared with the vulcanized rubber powder, and the modification effects of two methods were studied. In order to expand the application field of the crumb powder, the purity of the rubber powder more than95%which was modified by mechanical force chemical was added to the jinling70#asphalt, and crumb rubber/asphalt composites were prepared, and the relevant performance of the crumb rubber/asphalt composites was studied. In this paper, the main work follows:(1) Vulcanizates with the crumb rubber and the natural rubber were prepared and the influence of powder particle size and content of the crumb rubber about the physical mechanical properties and mechanical properties of the cross-linked rubber were discussed. Those based research was made preparations to carry out the work of follow-up study.(2) The chemical additives named coumarone desulfurization method of waste rubber powder was used. The content of the coumarone was changed, and then the optimum content of the coumarone was initially identified. Per100g of crumb rubber added2g coumarone is the best. Under the best condition, a series of experiments were carried out and coumarone modified crumb rubber/natural rubber vulcanizates were prepared. The physical and mechanical properties, mechanical dynamic analysis, scanning electron microscopy were tested. The results showed that coumarone modified crumb rubber/natural rubber vulcanizates had good mechanical properties. The performance of coumarone modified crumb rubber/natural rubber vulcanizates is better than the plasticized crumb powder.(3)The mechanical force chemical modification method of the crumb rubber was used. The waste rubber powder was sheared by the mill and the surface properties of crumb rubber were changed. The crumb rubber occurrence of desulfurization and the surface properties of crumb rubber were improved. In this paper, the modified rubber power/natural rubber vulcanizates were prepared by the mechanical force chemical modification method. The vulcanizates had good mechanical properties and larger cross-linking density.(4)The crumb rubber was added into the asphalt and it was used to modify the asphalt. Modified asphalt with crumb rubber and asphalt matrix were prepared and the impacts of the crumb rubber content and the particle size were discussed. TOR and NOBS were added into the crumb rubber/asphalt system and the performance of asphalt matrix was discussed. The mechanism of TOR modified bitumen matrix was further studied. The study found that the crumb rubber improve the high and low temperature of the asphalt, reducing the asphalt pavement cracking and aging phenomenon, and improve the driving safety of motor vehicles,and improve the useful life of the pavement.In this paper, the application of the crumb rubber in raw rubber and asphalt was researched preliminarily. The researches have done some theoretical basis for industrialization of the modification method and have an important significance for domestic recycling of the waste rubber. Besides, it will promote the development of environment-friendly industry further.
