Design Of Chongqing City Nursing Home Indoor Living Environment Optimization

As impressive economic, technological and social strides have been made, significant changes have taken place in the worldwide demographic structure. Population ageing has become one of the most common, most important and most difficult practical problems that human society has to face.China is one of the countries with the fastest growing of aging population in the world, and it has the second largest aging population all over the world as well. Chongqing, a municipal with the largest population in China, has crowned itself with "a city of the largest absolute number of aging population". However, along with the development of economy and the improvement of living standards in recent years as well as the increase of empty-nesters in Chongqing, the limitation of home-based care for the aged begins to emerge, and the traditional model is under impact while people’s concept of providing for the aged is getting closer to the model of institution for the aged.Based on the research of the current situation and development trend of aging population in Chongqing, identify the problems in environmental designs for nursing homes with professional knowledge, and devotes to designing nursing homes that conform to the old people’s physiological and psychological needs as well as the geographical characteristics of the city. Finally it puts forward an environment design scheme of nursing homes in line with the geographical characteristics of Chongqing, in the aim of alleviating the impact of aging population on the urban development.The thesis consists of five chapters:the first chapter elaborates the research background and significance, and also relates to the research content and relevant conceptions to lay the foundation for the subsequent writing. The logic of the thesis has been clearly presented through the introduction of research thinking and method. The second chapter focuses on the field researches of several nursing homes in Chongqing urban areas and classifies them into three categories before analyzing the general status quos of the living environments, and reveal existing problems in the current nursing homes. The third chapter discusses the special needs of aged people for living environment in terms of their physical, psychological and behavioral characteristics based on the psychology and ergonomics knowledge. Meanwhile, the thesis puts the special needs of the aged people as the starting point of the indoor living environment design. Chapter four studies the overall design for indoor living environment based on the corresponding decoration design and barrier free design standards, combines the geographical characteristics of Chongqing. The last chapter makes a conclusion of the whole thesis.
