[Objective] Nurses in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) hospitals are the practitioner and educator of TCM career, so their TCM literacy level will affect the development of TCM directly or indirectly. Since there are some differences between the civic TCM literacy and nurse’s TCM literacy, we need to specialize in nurse’s TCM literacy. Nevertheless, no one have launched the study in this field, so we are going to define the nurse’s TCM literacy based on the civic TCM literacy with methods of literature review and seminar of experts, then establish the evaluating indices system on nurse’s TCM literacy, to lay the foundation for the measurements in future, to fill the research gap, to bring about awareness of nurse’s TCM literacy, and to promote the development of TCM nursing subsequently. Furthermore, nurse’s TCM literacy could be an index for evaluating the effects of TCM knowledge training for nurses and related intervention studies.[Methods] Firstly, we retrieved " science literacy" and " humanistic literacy" related literatures, to provide theoretical basis for defining the nurse’s TCM literacy. Secondly, the concept and the connotation of nurse’s TCM literacy are cleared through seminar of experts.Thirdly, on the foundation of the first two steps, we completed the first draft of evaluating indices system on nurse’s TCM literacy with methods of literature review. Fourthly,17experts in TCM nursing education, Clinical nursing, TCM education, were selected to evaluate the importance of evaluating indices with two rounds of the Delphi expert consultation. The main goal of the first round was to modify our text content. In the second round, Average score of the importance≥4.00, and coefficient of variation<0.22were used to item screen indexes in the second round, and Kendall harmonious coefficient, experts actively coefficient, expert degree were used to inspect reliability of Delphi expert consultation in both round.[Results] We originally defined nurse’s TCM literacy as " Under a certain social context, the qualities that nurses should have as nurses in TCM hospitals", which includes ’understand TCM terms"," understand TCM theory "," understand the impact of TCM on individuals and society"," have a sense of humanistic spirit contained in TCM ". Based on the above definition of nurse’s TCM literacy, we completed the first draft of evaluating indices system on nurse’s TCM literacy with5domains,32facets,193items, with witch, we carried out two rounds of the Delphi expert consultation.The average age of experts was47.47,100%of them have got title in vice-high class or above, and the mean working years in their own areas was21.53.Two rounds of consultation response rate were higher than80%, the means of two rounds authorities both were0.87and 0.89respectively, The harmonious coefficients was0.393at the first round and0.379at the second round, both of them had statistical significance (p=.000*).The selection importance score was3.20to4.80, mean4.11at the first round. At the second round, it was3.64to4.86,mean4.39, and variation coefficient was0.07-0.38, mean0.16.[Conclusion] There were4domains screened to evaluate nurse’s TCM literacy which were "understand the basic knowledge of TCM"," understand the impact of TCM on individuals and society"," have a sense of humanistic spirit contained in TCM " and "application ability of TCM"."Understand the basic knowledge of TCM" had the most weight, with16facets and100items."Application ability of TCM" was in second place with3facets and8items."Understand the impact of TCM on individuals and society" was in third place with2facets and13items."Have a sense of humanistic spirit contained in TCM" had the smallest weight with4facets and24items.
