Ge Chaozhi Music Events And Historical Research

According to the limited information being released, Mr. Ge Chaozhi’s music lifeshows clear similarity to the development of Western music in Shanghai. This paperfocuses on his dedication in the field of music throughout his whole life; therefore,gives an organized analysis on his attitude to his music career (especially on vocalmusic).In order to write this paper, the author interviewed several people who arefamiliar with this topic, collected material evidence and more than150,000wordsinformation in books and journals.This article has four chapters, dividing Mr. Ge’s life into four parts. Chapter oneprobes into Mr. Ge’s early life before his formal music education, and analyzes thereason behind his passion for music. Chapter two discusses about the developmentof Mr. Ge’s emotion towards music, in the period from his early arts education tooverseas study. Chapter three discusses about his insistence on truth of arts and hisrigorous style in vocal performance after his return to China till the period of CulturalRevolution. Chapter four analyzes Mr. Ge’s pure purpose and scrupulous attitudetowards teaching during the last period of his life.The author hopes to use this paper to stimulate more research on Mr. Ge’smusic career and more public interest in other older generation of musicians.
