The seal-cutting art is from the practical.Since the Tang Dynasty,with the literatipainting and calligraphy using the seal widely,and the identification of uniqueaesthetic value of the seal, the seal-cutting art gradually evolved into an art form.Thediscovery and use of stone printed material,also makes the literati carving art creationof beauty by themselves,and gets rid of the mode of literati printing and craftsmencutting,enters a new stage of literati printing and cutting all by themselves. As aconscious artistic aesthetic form,it should be said that the seal-cutting art much lagsfar behind the calligraphy.And as the Chinese characters as the carrier of art,in theformation of the aesthetic,the aesthetic value judgment,it is impossible that theseal-cutting art not subject to the influence of the art of calligraphy.Calligraphy-stroke style, is originally belonged to the art aesthetic areas ofcalligraphy,but when the seal-cutting art stepped into the art of conscious outset,regarded by the literati as the beauty of engraving initials and attracted widespreadattention. Calligraphy-stroke style theory is also able to produce with the seal of theliteratization and artistization process,and has evolved by the development of theseal-cutting art.We can say that the important propositions in the history ofseal-cutting art such as “studying seal cutting must follow the traits of Qin and Handynasty”,“the sigil characters should base on the way of calligraphy”,“acquiring thenutrition from outer field of the seal-cutting art”,have very close relationship with thetheory of stroke style.In this article,we put the theory of the seal-cutting stroke style asthe starting point, the causes of the theory of the seal-cutting stroke style anddevelopment of transmutation process as a sequence,and we try to systematicallyanalyze the development of the history of seal-cutting art,in order to examining thisangle of seal-cutting art.
