This paper selected five advanced Chinese comprehensive textbooks as study objects. According to the basic principles of compiling textbooks and some related (?)beories of assessing textbooks, adopting the ways of data-collecting statistics, this paper analyzes the present compiling conditions of this five sets of textbooks from the following four aspects:the length of the texts; the difficulty level of the texts; the style of the texts and the theme of the texts. On this basis, this paper analyzed and discussed the deficiencies existing in this five sets textbooks in the four perspectives, indicates the ssues that should be put into consideration in the process of compiling texts, and offer suggestions for further improvement. The author pointed out three issues that should be paid more attention to when compiling textbooks for advanced students. Firstly, while edit texts, rewrite should be adopted to control the length of the text and the number of new characters so that the difficulty will be suitable for the students. Secondly, the texts of every set of textbooks should include all written styles especially some formal written styles, avoid selecting too many texts that of the same style. Thirdly, need analyzation is definitely indispensable before compiling textbooks, the theme of the texts can use study life and office life as the main themes.
